FacetWP A-Z Listing Alpha Add-On WordPress Plugin

The A-Z Listing facet type presents a collection of the first letters from the selected Data Source field content.

To view results that begin with a specific letter, simply click on that letter. You can reset the facet by clicking the chosen letter again or by selecting the ‘Any’ link.

By default, this facet displays only the uppercase letters A to Z from the standard Latin alphabet.

Each post’s initial letter is compared to these letters after any accents have been removed or simplified using WP’s built-in remove_accents() function before indexing. When you click on a letter in the facet, it is matched against the indexed first letter (which has no accents). Both uppercase and lowercase letters are treated equally in this matching process. For instance, posts that start with n, N, ñ, or Ñ will all be indexed as starting with n/N, without accents, and will match when you click on N in the facet. If you’re curious, you can verify how each character’s accents are removed and how they are processed by this function. Keep in mind that it not only removes accents but also simplifies certain characters in various ways; for example, æ is converted to ae.
